Course Description
What happens on the 2-day Teach the Teacher course?
On the Teach the Teacher Course for Doctors, we explore formal teaching theories, principles and teaching tools. The small-group training format keeps the course interactive. Over the two days, your tutor begins by introducing you to some well-established concepts. They support you to deliver a 1-to-1 teaching session and then a small group tutorial. This builds your confidence and gives you experience in applying the theory you have learned. Next, you work as part of a small team, preparing and delivering a longer teaching session to the whole group. We discuss the different approaches required for each of these situations in depth with emphasis on your individual requirements. This means you learn from delivering your own teaching sessions and receiving feedback. You also learn from experiencing teaching from your fellow delegates and your tutor supports you to practice giving constructive feedback.
For August 2025 training programme intakes, both Virtual Classroom and In-Person dates for this live, tutor-led course:

What support materials are provided?
We continue supporting your learning long after the event. This is in keeping with the principles which we share with you on the course. Every delegate on the Teach the Teacher course receives a copy of our popular Teaching Skills for Doctors guide book. (120 pages and retail price £49.99). This is the print edition when you attend the course in-person and the digital version when you book a Virtual Classroom course. We use this to support your learning at the course and it provides you with a valuable resource for future reference. In addition, we send you a series of Top Tips for Great Teaching Practice by email during the weeks and months after the event. Each Top Tip email includes a link to a short 3-minute reminder of some of the course’s key messages. You can read these whenever you wish.
What happens with a course in the Virtual Classroom?
Courses in our Virtual Classrooms interactively cover the same content as our face-to-face courses. We use secure video meeting software for this format. This enables your tutor to lead group interaction where you learn together with other doctors. So you will receive the same CPD certificate as you would at any of our other venues. If you book a Virtual Classroom course, then you receive the digital copy of our Teaching Skills for Doctors book. As an added bonus, you also have complimentary access to our self-guided Teach the Teacher Online Course (normal retail price £180). This provides you the opportunity to gain an additional 3 CPD points with a separate certificate as evidence of further training in teaching skills. Please note. This additional online course is only provided as part of your package when your course takes place in our Virtual Classroom.
How do I book my Teach the Teacher course?
Around 2,000 doctors attend our Teach the Teacher Course every year. The courses run regularly throughout the year in the Virtual Classroom as well as in-person London, Birmingham and Manchester. This web-page shows live availability for all dates and, subject to availability, we accept bookings for courses right up to the morning of the course. So find your ideal date/location, click ‘Select’ and enter your information. Click here to read about your flexible payment options.
Is this course suitable for me?
Our Teach the Teacher course is suitable for all doctors and dentists involved in teaching and mentoring, either formally or informally. You may have been advised or required to attend a “Train the Trainer” course. If so, then this is the ideal course for you. We prefer to use “Teaching” in our title as “Training” suggests a less interactive approach. So, our course is relevant whether you seek development for revalidation, to fulfil a CCT requirement or to gain points for ST/CT/GPST selection.
Your experienced tutor begins by establishing your level of experience and interests. This helps them to know where to place the emphasis and ensure maximum benefit for all delegates. The best reason for attending is that this course improves your ability to support the development of others. Our structure and approach ensure doctors of all levels learn from each other as well as from your tutor. We therefore regularly see delegates of all grades from FY and ST through to SAS and experienced Consultants.
Continuous professional development
Our Teach the Teacher / Train the Trainer course, is externally validated and accredited by CPD Healthcare. This accreditation applies to all dates and locations including our Virtual Classroom. We send you an email with a link to download your certificate worth 12 CPD points within two working days from the end of the event. Delegates who book a course in our Virtual Classroom also have access to our Teach the Teacher Online Course which provides the opportunity to gain an additional 3 CPD points on a separate certificate.
