Frequently Asked Questions
How do I access my online course?
When you complete payment for an online course you’ll receive two emails from Oxford Medical Training. One confirms your purchase and contains your VAT receipt. The other contains a link and instructions on how to access your course. If you don’t get the emails straight away, check your spam or junk folder. You can also access your course at any time from the ‘my account’ section of our website.
How do I download a file I just purchased?
When you complete payment for a book or video download you’ll receive an email from Oxford Medical Training. The email confirms your purchase and contains your VAT receipt. It also contains a link for your download. It’s valid for 48 hours. Just click on the link and the file will download or open depending on your browser settings. You’ll need a password to open the file. The password is in the same email. If you don’t get the emails straight away, check your spam or junk folder. You can also access your downloaded files at any time from the ‘my account’ section of our website.
What if my shifts have changed and I can no longer attend a course?
You should let us know as soon as you can. You can move a booking at no charge up to 4 weeks before your course date. You can view our cancellation policy here.
Who will the tutor on my course be?
All our interview courses are delivered by practising NHS consultants with direct experience of recruitment. Our Medical Leadership in the NHS course and the final day of our 3-day Leadership and Management course are also delivered by practising consultants. Our teaching, management and communication skills courses are delivered by subject experts with experience of a medical environment.
How many people will there be at my course?
We deliberately restrict the numbers on our courses to keep them interactive. Depending on the course you book there will be a maximum of between 8 and 18 people on the course.
How do I know if a course still has places left on it?
Our website shows an accurate and up to date list of course availability. Courses are listed on the site approximately 6 months in advance. Our courses are very popular and often fill up quickly. To make sure you get a place on the date and location of your choice you should book as early as possible. Courses with limited availability are shown with a yellow flag and can still be booked. If a course is showing as available you can book it, right up to 1 hour before it is due to start.
Will I get a CPD certificate?
Yes. Your printable pdf certificate of attendance from your course will be allocated to your account within 2 working days. For online courses, your certificate will be sent via email as an attached pdf. All of our courses and many of our online courses are approved CPD.
Are Oxford Medical Training courses approved by my Royal College?
We run hundreds of courses a year so it is not practical for us to have all our courses approved by every Royal College. Instead our courses are independently assessed and approved by CPD Healthcare. You will receive a certificate of attendance for your portfolio and your Royal College will recognise the training as certified CPD.
Will I get a VAT receipt?
You will receive a confirmation email with a VAT receipt attached immediately after your purchase. If you don’t receive the email please remember to check your spam folder. Please note that the VAT receipt will be in the name of the person paying. If you book multiple places on a course we are not able to issue separate VAT receipts to the other attendees. We can however provide evidence of booking to allow claims to be made for each attendee. Because all our courses take place in the UK, orders placed from outside the UK still attract VAT.
Why doesn’t the VAT on my order add up to 20%?
Not all our products attract VAT. In particular, printed books ordered online or used at courses are not subject to VAT. Your VAT receipt takes this into account and the total amount of VAT shown is accurate.
Can I have a copy of the course book in advance?
Normally we will supply you with a comprehensive book to support your learning when you attend your course. If you prefer to receive the book in advance please contact us.
Can I have a copy of the PowerPoint slides?
Unfortunately our tutors are not able to supply you with a copy of our PowerPoint slides. Instead you will receive a comprehensive book to support your learning when you attend your course.
What time does my course start?
All our courses, with the exception of Teach the Teacher start at 8:30 for 9:00am and finish around 5:00pm. Teach the teacher starts at 9:00 for 9:30am. You will receive a confirmation email the day after booking and a reminder a few days before the course. Both should list the start time and location of your course. If you don’t get confirmation remember to check your spam folder for an email from us.
Where can I stay?
All our courses take place in hotels. The hotels offer us reduced accommodation rates. Mention Oxford Medical Training when you book accommodation. You can check out our venues and any discounts they offer in the ‘our locations’ section of our website. It is very unlikely that we will cancel your course (for example due to bad weather) but we still recommend you book refundable accommodation and travel just in case.
Do you offer free parking at courses?
Some of our venues do offer free parking. Those that don’t offer on-site parking for a daily fee. You can check out our venues and the parking arrangements in the ‘our locations’ section of our website.
What do you do with my data?
Why do you need my mobile number?
We use your mobile number to send a text message reminder the day before your course and the day before expiry of an online course. We may also use your mobile number to call or text you if there is a problem with your booking or if we need to contact you urgently; for example, if a course is cancelled because of bad weather. We never use your mobile number for marketing and never share it with anyone else.
What should I wear?
The dress code for our courses is smart casual.
I am not a doctor but I work within the medical community, can I still attend?
Our courses are aimed at hospital doctors but they also attract a significant number of GPs, dentists and other health professionals. Most of our courses are suitable for people who work in a hospital or as part of a medical team.
Is this course appropriate for my speciality?
Our courses are not speciality-specific and the learning outcomes apply equally to all doctors from all specialities.
Is this course appropriate for my grade?
The majority of our courses are suitable for all grades. However, some are more advanced than others. You’ll find recommendations for suitable grades in the course descriptions or by using the ‘compare’ function in the list of all courses on our website.
