Overview of the Medical School Interview Course
The challenge. Competition to secure a place at Medical School in the UK is exceptionally high. Last year alone, there were over 21,000 applicants. The interview stage is the toughest step which you will face in your quest for success. Oxford and Cambridge have also added the element of academic rigour in the their assessment processes which differed significantly compared to other Medical Schools. You have just one chance to win the post at the university of your choice.
The solution. Its essential to prepare effectively so that you stand out from the crowd. Oxford Medical Training’s Medical School Interview Course is specifically designed to help you succeed.
What will I learn?
We are prepared to cover the full application and interview process from start to finish. The different interview formats used by specific Medical Schools are clarified and we help you to recognise the style of thinking that Medical Schools look for. You learn how to respond to a broad range of questions and challenges. We explore how to answer questions about your personal experiences and motivations to study medicine, ethical dilemmas, current hot topics plus much more.
Different universities take different approaches. We therefore ensure you know what to expect and give you experience of the relevant Panel Interviews, Multi-Mini Interviews (MMI) and Group activities. The combination of information, practice and feedback builds your confidence, developing your ability to present yourself at your very best.
Is this course right for me?
Have you applied for, or are considering applying for Medical School in the UK?
If so, then this course has been specifically designed for you. You may be in your final year at school, on a gap year, studying anther course or aspiring to become ‘mature’ student. You may be a UK citizen or an International applicant. Whatever your experience is to date, our aim is to facilitate your success through the application/interview process.
What is the format?
We keep the number of our participants low. This means you experience a 1:1 practise session for Panel Interviews and small group sessions which accurately reflect MMI interviews.
Your tutors, led by a senior NHS Consultant doctor, will guide you through the full interview process. The number of tutors facilitating your course will depend upon the total number of delegates, who book to attend. Our approach enables interactive learning throughout the day. You have lots of opportunity to ask questions, develop your ideas and practice your interview technique. We use a mix of informing, discussion, feedback and coaching to help you develop your skills.
At every course, we begin by establishing what you and your fellow delegates want to focus on. We then adapt our objectives for the day accordingly.
You will receive a copy of our “SARP” Medical School Interview Guide book, (2018-19 edition) on the day of the course as part of your package (Retail price £25.00). This provides you with a comprehensive resource, which you can use to continue learning right up to and including the day of your interview.
Lunch is also included.
