A one day intensive course aimed at consultant grade applicants. This course is delivered by current NHS consultants and is limited to a maximum of 6-8 candidates.

Structure of the Consultant Medical Interview Training Day

8.30: Registration and Coffee

9.00-10.15: Medical Interview Skills

A lecture on the interview process and interview skills covering the following topics:

  1. Medical Presentations. Delivering a medical presentation
  2. Dress and body language. What to wear and how to act
  3. Types of questioning. Management and non management questions
  4. Approaches to answering questions. Different structuring formats
  5. Delivery and answering questions. Communication skills

10.15: Coffee Break

10.30-12.30: Core knowledge and opinion formation-Workshop 1:

A look at all the issues of the NHS and its set up that must be at your fingertips for you interview. This workshop will help you with the information that you need to know and develop important opinions on these topics. Small group and individually focused covering NHS management issues and governance topics.

12.30-13:00: Lunch Break

A 3 course sit down meal. All types of dietry requirements are catered for. A great oppotunity to discuss any personal issues with your NHS Consultant trainer and clarify any issue about the application and interview process that you would like to know more about.

13:30-14:30 Core knowledge and opinion formation-Workshop 2:

Another set of workshops which are carried out in small groups of 3-4 where you will go though lots of commonly asked topics. We will work on your content delivery and presentation skills thoughout this workshop.Topics covered include:

14:30-17:15: Video recorded Mock AAC Consultant Interview Practice with Feedback

Each candidate will receive a mock consultant interview. Now that you have learnt about the interview process, new interview skills techniques and have plenty of content from our NHS hot topic workshops it is time to put these skills and ideas into practice. These sessions are video recorded and feedback will be given so that you can actually see how you deliver your content. Feedback is individual and unique to this course. Because different questions are asked to each candidate you will cover hundreds of questions which will serve as excellent preparation for your interview. A copy of your interview will be provided on DVD so that you can use it at home to improve your presentation, delivery and content prior to your interview. Questions that will be asked during this session will like the real AAC panel fall into the following categories.

17:15-17:30: The Pre-interview Visit

The pre-interview visit and pre-shortlisting visit will be discussed. Tips on when, how to make appointments, who to see and what to ask will be presented.

17:30 Conclusions and Course End: 

A Summary of the most important points for the day and individual focused direction as to the next steps for your interview preparation. Course materials including handouts and passwords to access the post course training section of our website will be distributed.
